Miners’ Day 2015 MCL to further improve Miners’ LifestyleBasundhara (Sundergarh), May 4: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a leading Coal India subsidiary under Ministry of Coal, has accelerated welfare activities to further improve the lifestyle of its miners serving in remote project areas in Odisha.

Addressing at the Miners’ Day celebrations here last evening, company’s Chairman-cum-Managing Director Mr A N Sahay congratulated all the members of the company, trade unions and officers’ association for their coordinated efforts in MCL growth and progress. ‘’Today on this auspicious occasion of Miners’ Day, I congratulate you all,’’ he said amid applause.  The company which contributes about Rs 100 crore under CSR, is focusing on creating infrastructure for welfare of its miners in the remote coalfields areas.     Enumerating achievements of company during last financial year, Mr Sahay said, ‘’New infrastructure,     like separate hostels for trainees officers and the staff as well as modern healthcare and recreational facilities in our all the areas, is in offing.’’
The gathering was also addressed by the Chief Vigilance Officer Mr Deepak Srivastava, Director (Technical/Projects & Planning) Mr J P Singh, Director (Personnel) Mr P C Panigrahi, Trade union leaders Mr Soubhagya Pradhan (OCMS), Ms Anik Chakraborty (AITUC), Mr Shanker Behera (HMS), Mr Ajay Biswal (BMS), Mr C S Mallik (CISTEA) and Mr Sahab Singh (CMOAI). On this occasion, the CMD and the dignitaries also gave away awards to the best performers of year 2014.Women body Jagriti Mahila Mandal was also awarded for the social upliftment for underprivileged peripheral population.The company has over 22,000 strong manpower operating 16 open cast and 6 underground mines in Ib Valley Coalfields — Sundergarh and Jharsuguda districts – and Talcher Coalfields (in Angul district), with headquarters at Sambalpur.
