NALCO celebrates 17th National Technology Day in BhubaneswarBhubaneswar, May 11: To mark the celebration of 17th National Technology Day, National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) organized a talk on “GOD” PARTICLE (Higgs Boson) and the Infant Universe at CERN at its Corporate Office today. Padma Bhushan Prof Bikash Sinha, INSA Emeritus Scientist, Former Homi Bhabha Professor, DAE; Former Director, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics & Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre, Kolkata was the Chief Speaker.

Delivering the he explained, how in about a microsecond after the Big Bang, a standard model must have consisted of quarks, leptons (electrons… etc) and photons (light particle), the mechanism that generates the mass of these elementary particles, Higgs Boson (GOD Particle) and the Higgs mechanism. Through his talk he explained why universe must have been much smaller and hence much denser and hotter in the past. He also highlighted on the contribution of Indian Scientists and philosophers in the field including that of Kanad (200 B.C.), Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose, Meghnad Saha, Satyendra Nath Bose, Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Rāman, Homi Jehangir Bhabha etc.

Shri N.R.Mohaty, D(P&T) and CMD, NALCO presided over the function and emphasized the importance of National Technology Day. Shri S.K. Dash, ED (P&T) of the company introduced the guest and Shri Subrat Kar, GM (R&D) offered the vote of thanks. The program was attended by eminent Scientists, Technologists, Engineers, drawn from various organizations apart from NALCO employees.
