NIFT Bhubaneswar Convocation-2015 on May 20

NIFT Bhubaneswar Convocation-2015 on May 2020th May, 2015 is going to be a red letter day for 56 youngsters in Bhubaneswar. On the Annual Convocation Day of NIFT Bhubaneswar, two batches of students would obtain their degrees, marking the end of their academic journey and the beginning of their career. 30 students from the Dept. of Textile Design would be awarded Bachelor in Design, while 26 students from the Dept. of Fashion Management Studies would receive their hard-earned Master in Fashion Management. The occasion would be graced by Shri Sanjay Kumar Panda, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India. Special invitees include Mr. Roshan Baid, Director, Paragon Apparel Pvt. Ltd. and Mr. Atul Ujagar, the Country Head, Nike Sourcing for India, Sri Lanka & Pak. ‘Tantu’, a Design Collection show, has been put up by students of Textile Design, while select Graduation Project Reports of the Fashion Management students would be presented before the dignitaries.

NIFT Bhubaneswar has been hitting the headlines often enough, and for the right set of reasons. The quiet, green and sprawling campus of the National Institute of Fashion Technology at Patia near KIIT campus is already established as a cradle for designers, managers and innovators within the fashion industry. Within a short span of 5 years (established in 2010), the Bhubaneswar campus, the premier fashion education hub has managed to carve a niche of its own. While this is the second batch from the Dept. of Textile Design, it’s the fourth harvest from the Dept. of Fashion Management. The Institute has placed previous batches successfully, while some students have actually started off with their own ventures as entrepreneurs. Among those receiving their Design degree certificates tomorrow, many are already employed with prestigious firms such as Encode Fabric, Biba, And Designs and Triveni Sarees. The post graduate students following the path of their seniors, have already bagged lucrative positions with corporate houses like Madura Garments, the Landmark Group, Snapdeal.com, Arvind Textiles, the Future Group and Reliance Industries Ltd.

Blending academics with industrial best practices while retaining a creative edge has been a challenge in the path of the rapidly growing fashion industry in our country. NIFT is a government venture meant to address this need for well-informed and innovative designers and managers, who are also attuned to the needs to the global market. While there is a 20% reservation for students of the home state as per govt. mandates, NIFT Bhubaneswar has a healthy mix of students from almost every corner of India. The students who would be walking up the podium proudly in their graduation capes have undergone a tightly scheduled course curriculum in order to reach this point. The chosen 56 stepping out into the ‘grown-up’ world tomorrow might have stars in their eyes, but their feet are already planted firmly in the ground.
