Oxfam organises Workshop on Mainstreaming DDR in BhubaneswarBhubaneswar, Nov 14: A one day state level consultation workshop on mainstreaming DRR in Development – Challenges in the last mile was organized by Oxfam and its DRR project partners UNNAYAN, Balasore, Pallishree, Jajpur and Solar, Konark at Hotel Presidency, Bhubaneswar on 13th November 2015.

The Workshop was participated by various NGOs of Odisha working on DRR issues, IAG partner organizations ( Red Cross, Plan India, Practical Action, Care India, World Vision, LWS, Water Aid, UNDP), Development Activists, Consultants, Researchers and civil society representatives from various districts of Odisha.

Disaster takes heavy toll on the people of Odisha, be it flood, cyclone or drought, almost every year the people of Odisha are witnessing Disasters in different forms. There is need to integrate the DRR strategies in the ongoing development process so that the people will see disasters with reduced impact.

On the other side there is need of developing partnerships between development actors to take on such occurrences. The workshop emphasized on developing partnership among different agencies, sharing resources and responsibilities, prepare the community and sensitize the duty bearers so that a wholehearted effort is initiated to mitigate disasters.

On behalf of Oxfam Mr. Akhaya Biswal, Regional Manager said that we are ready to take the lead to create a convergent platform of all development actors in this direction. Mr Meghanad Behera from UNDP/OSDMA said that we are ready to provide all support to strengthen GO-NGO coordination for management of disasters in Odisha.
