Sesa Sterlite wins National Energy Conservation Awards 2014

Sesa Sterlite’s Aluminium Smelter Plant (SSLT), Jharsuguda has been conferred first prize in the prestigious “National Energy Conservation Awards -2014” in Aluminum sector of India.

Vendanta’s SSLT in Jharsuguda has been recognized by the government for its tremendous efforts towards environmental conservation, focusing on superior energy management. This is for the second successive time SSLT, Jharsuguda Aluminium Smelter Plant has been recognised by Government of India for its commitment towards energy conservation.

The award was given to Sesa Sterlite’s Aluminium Smelter Plant on the occasion of “National Energy Conservation Day Celebrations” organized by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the aegis of Ministry of Power, Government of India, on 14 December 2014.

The Union Cabinet Minister for Power and Coal, Piyush Goyal conferred the award “National Energy Conservation Awards -2014” to the President of COO of Sesa Sterlite’s Aluminium Smelter Plant, Abhijit Pati, in the function.

To mark the occasion of ‘The National Energy Conservation Day’, the Ministry of Power awards different companies for creating benchmarks in energy conservation.

BEE evaluates the energy consumption data and shortlists companies. These shortlisted organizations are audited by Ministry of Power, Government of India. Based on their recommendations, the energy conservation award is decided.

Sesa Sterlite’s Aluminium Smelter Plant has undertaken many energy conservation initiatives for achieving benchmark energy efficiency by implementing innovative projects such as pot cell voltage reduction by lining design change and fuel oil consumption reduction by process optimisation.

SSLT has also adopted best in class practices and Energy Management Systems which include ISO:50001.

Sesa Sterlite’s Aluminium Smelter Plant has received many national and international awards including ‘Excellent Energy Efficient unit’ award from CII and ‘Best Energy Efficient project realised abroad’ in ENES’2014 organised by Ministry of Energy, Government of Russia, for its efforts in the field of energy conservation.
