Snehangini Churia inaugurates Utkarsh Exhibition in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Sep 24: Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts Department of Odish Government Odisha is organizing a Handlooms & Handicrafts Exhibition-“UTKARSH” at Ekamra Haat, Bhubaneswar for the period from 23.09.2015 to 04.10.2015 on the occasion of National Convention of Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Association of India (FHRAI) and “World Tourism Day-2015” from 25.09.2015 to 27.09.2015.

Hon’ble Minister, Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts, Odisha Snehangini Churia inaugurated the exhibition today at 5.30 PM in presence of Smt. Chithra Arumugam, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary to Govt., HT&H Deptt., Govt. of Odisha & other Senior Officers. About One lakhs foot fall is expected with business of approximately Fifty Lakhs.

 

The exhibition is executed by Utkalika, an Apex Cooperative Society for Handicrafts on behalf of Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts Department. Apart from existing 50 nos of handicraft & handloom stalls in Ekamra Haat, additional 20 nos. of stalls have been constructed for participation of both Handloom & Handicraft Artisans/Weavers/Co-operative Societies of the States. Besides, the Apex Cooperatives like- Utkalika, Boyanika, Amlan & Sambalpuri Bastralaya are also participating in the fair. A variety of exclusive Handloom & Handicraft items from all over Odisha such as- Stone Carving, Patta Chitra, Appliqué, Brass & Bell Metal, Wood Carving, Silver Filigree & Handloom items like different sarees of IKAT designs, Bomkei, Khandua, Tassar, Dress Materials, Bed spreads, Stoll etc. will be exhibited in the fair for display and sale.

The delegates from across the country  and also from foreign countries will be attending the national event of FHRAI are expected to visit the Exhibition which will give them exposure to rich craft & Handloom heritage of Odisha. It is also expected to attract Tourists to Ekarma Haat which has permanent stalls for exhibiting Odisha Art & Crafts throughout the year.
