Festivals are celebrated all over the world. People celebrate festivals in different ways. Festivals are nowadays commercialised celebrations that wreak havoc in more ways than one. They are now one of the major sources of environmental pollution and health disorders. In spite of taking several steps to curb the pollution, it is the lack of awareness among the general population that still needs to improve.
In the effort to bring awareness for a pollution-free celebration, this Diwali making it a special one, Odisha Police celebrated in the most noble way. Determined to bring smiles to destitute and disadvantaged, Odisha police celebrated Diwali in different parts of Odisha with a difference. Police personnel in various districts of Odisha, distributed sweets and daily necessities at Orphanages, Blind and relief centres and Old-age homes.
Spending quality time with the orphan and mentally challenged kids, the police personnel also had meaningful interaction with senior citizens and also took part in Kirtan with the old ladies. They also participated in decoration and lit up diyas along with the kids. For the sake of happiness, the personnel burned a few crackers with the children but also enlightened them about the environmental concerns and health hazards risked due to burning crackers.
Diwali is supposed to be a festival of lights, hence burning crackers has become a ritual. But, Odisha Police has truly inspired all that only burning crackers don’t add to the joy of Diwali but sharing and caring, and spreading love does. And that it is through the initiative of each one of us, we can bring modification in the traditional way of celebrating festivals and through gestures of kindness and compassion in our hearts can enjoy festivals for years to come.
We now know that Police too have a soft side to their otherwise perceived persona. Our salute to the kind and compassionate spirit of Odisha Police.
