Shocking Saga of Tuktuki Mandal – Bengal’s Missing Daughter

Tuktuki MandalWhy Political Parties, Media (Print + TV Channels), Rights Activists and our Intellectuals are silent over the shocking saga of Tuktuki Mandal? Why Arnab, Barkha and Rajdeep did not find the issue relevant? This is the question India should ask today. Does the nation care to know about Tuktuki?

Tuktuki Mandal, a student of Class X at a village under Magrahat police station in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, was kidnapped on February 25, 2015 by by a hoodlum called Salim, who was associated with CPM, but now enjoys patronage of Trinamool Congress. She was repeatedly raped and tortured by Salim, who also runs a gang of many criminals. Salim was backed by Babusona Gazi, another TMC cadre.

Tuktuki’s parents had to run from pillar to post to get their daughter released. On March 9, her parents were forced to sign some blank documents and Tuktuki was handed over to them. Tuktuki was again kidnapped on May 5 by the same group, who also ransacked their house and looted the money and ornaments meant for her marriage.

Tuktuki Mandal has been missing since then. On June 29, The Trinamool Congress Government as well as the opposition, including Left, Congress and BJP miserably failed to take up her cause until the court’s intervention. An organisation, called ‘Hindu Samhati’ had approached the High Court on Tuktuki’s behalf. The organisation also helped her father to draft letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The Calcutta High Court has ordered that Tuktuki Mandal be produced in court on or before July 27 and also sought the arrest her abductors. Let’s see if Mamata Banerjee will be able to give justice to Bengal’s Daughter – Tuktuki Mandal or not.
