Govt to fix Minimum Wage Rs 350 for Farm Workers in C-class Cities

farm-workersThe Union Government has decided to fix the minimum wage for unskilled agricultural labourer in C-class towns at Rs 350 per day, which will be effective from November 1.

The Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya informed it to media persons in New Delhi.

At present, agriculture workers in the central sphere are paid Rs 160 per day, as per the rates prescribed under the national floor level minimum wage.

The Union Government is going to amend Minimum Wages Act, which will be called universal minimum wage. Once it is amended, it will become statutory and all the state governments would have to maintain a minimum wage fixed by the Centre.
