India, Egypt sign Agreement on Maritime Transport

India and Egypt have signed an agreement in the area of Maritime Transport with a view to strengthening cooperation and to render sustained mutual assistance and advice on merchant shipping and other related maritime matters.

The agreement was signed after delegation level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting President of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in New Delhi.

Two countries are agreed to work together to fight drug trafficking, transitional crimes , money laundering and challenges of cyber security.

Prime Minister Modi said, Egypt is a natural bridge between Africa and Asia. Saying trade and investment linkages are essential for eco prosperity of the societies, Modi called for increased flow of goods, services and capital between India and Egypt.  He also appreciated Egypt’s good work during its current term on UNSC.

In addition, Modi urged the private sector to lead in building new partnerships.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi said that despite relentless global changes, Egypt and India were constantly making efforts to find mutual solutions to international issues. The bilateral trade is 3.6 billion dollars out of which 2.3 billion dollars are Indian exports to Egypt and 1.2 billion dollars are imports from the West Asian country.
