Odisha aims Rs 21,559 crore exports in 2016-17

A state level empowered committee has been constituted on Thursday under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi in secretariat conference hall for guiding and monitoring of the strategies. Reviewing the progress, Sri Padhi directed to work out specific strategy for promoting export in each category of products.

It was decided in the meeting that different export promotion councils on various products like handicraft, handloom, cashew, engineering goods, agricultural & food products etc would be set up in Bhubaneswar.

The departments like Textile, Handloom & Handicraft, Industries, Agriculture, Fisheries & Animal Resource Development, Steel & Mines, Health & Family Welfare, Electronics & IT were advised set up export promotion cells in their respective departments. The committee also discussed the issues relating to setting up of Raptani Bhawan, showcasing exportable products of the State in prominent cities of India and abroad, implementation of a new state assistance scheme for creation of export infrastructure and supply of raw material to exporters through OSIC.

Available data show, during the year 2015-16 near about Rs 10814 crore of metallurgical products were exported from Odisha followed by electronics & software products of worth Rs.2700 cr marine products of worth rs.1967 cr and engineering chemical & allied products of worth Rs1295 crore.

Other products exported included the mineral, agricultural, handloom, handicraft, textile, pharmaceutical, gems & jewelry and service providers. During this year products of worth Rs.17,346 cr was exported from the State.
