Union Govt launches UDAN Scheme to avail Low-cost Airfares

Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ashok Gajapathi Raju on Friday launched the ambitious  UDAN (Udey Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) scheme in New Delhi, aiming to provide  cheaper regional connectivity with cheap airfares.

The scheme also aims to provide air services between unserved and under-served areas and is part of larger plans to boost the domestic aviation sector across the country. The scheme will connect 50 cities in next 4 years.

Under the UDAN scheme, airfares will be capped at 2,500 rupees for an hour’s flight for regional flights. The first flights under this scheme will  take off by January 2017.

The Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha was also present at the launching ceremony of the scheme.
