With the outbreak of Coronavirus that has the most countries under its grip, not sparing India, Odisha now is affected with its first case of Coronavirus detected positive in the capital.

The confirmed case is of a 31-year-old student studying in Italy who returned to India on March 6. On returning, he was put to quarantine until his swab and blood test reports came out negative following which he returned to his home town in Bhubaneswar through train on March 12. It is believed he deliberately took to train to avoid being examined and go through the investigation process.

However, on March 13, the boy complained of flu-like symptoms and took medicines on consulting a doctor but when the symptoms didn’t subside, he went for a check-up at the capital hospital. Soon after, his blood and swab samples were collected to be sent to Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC). RMRC confirmed his samples to coronavirus positive.

The patient has been kept in a special isolation ward in the hospital. As a safety measure, the Government has deployed a team to trace the persons having travelled on the train with the boy and suspected to have come in contact with him.

The outbreak that began in Wuhan, China within a short time has spread worldwide.
