Six Samples of UK Returnees In India Contain Mutant COVID-19 Strain

Six samples of UK Returnees in India were found to contain mutant COVID-19 strain, Health Ministry has confirmed. The six identified persons have been isolated at hospitals.

“A total of six samples of six UK returnee persons have been found to be positive with the new UK variant genome. Three in NIMHANS, Bengaluru, two in CCMB, Hyderabad and one in NIV, Pune,” the health ministry said in a statement.

A total of 33,000 passengers had landed in India from UK between November 25 and December 23. After tracking and tests, 114 persons were found to be positive.
