Swami Agnivesh Passes Away

Renowned social activist Swami Agnivesh passed away due to multiple organ failure in New Delhi on Friday. He was 80.

Agnivesh, who was suffering from Liver cirrhosis and was admitted to Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences in New Delhi, where he breathed his last.

His condition deteriorated today and he went into cardiac arrest at 6:00 PM. Resuscitation was attempted but the stalwart passed away at 6:30 PM.

Swami Agnivesh, who was born to a Brahmin family in Andhra Pradesh, gave up his caste to enter Arya Samaj. He is well known for his works against bonded labourers.

He entered into active politics and was also the Education Minister in the Haryana Government for two years.

Known for his controversial remarks, Swami Agnivesh was allegedly attacked by the BJP in Jharkhand and again in New Delhi.
