Alok Verma removed as CBI Chief by Select Panel led by PM Modi

ONI Bureau: Within a day of being reinstated by the Supreme Court, which authorised the Select Panel to take a decision on his fate, Alok Verma was removed tonight and shunted as DG, Fire Services. He is set to retire on January 31, 2019.

The Select Committee led by PM Narendra Modi took the decision by a 2:1 verdict. Supreme Court Judge Justice AK Sikri supported the removal of Verma, while Congress leader and LoP Mallikarjun Kharge opposed it and put a strong dissent note.

Both PM Modi and Justice AK Sikri found Alok Verma’s continuance detrimental to institutional integrity based on the evidences provided by the CVC against him.

Nageshwar Rao has been appointed as the interim CBI Director again. As expected, Congress Party has alleged that PM Modi “removed” Alok Verma as he feared big expose in Rafale scam.
