Alok Verma resigns from Indian Police Service

ONI Bureau:  A day after being removed as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director, Alok Verma has resigned from the Indian Police Service (IPS) on Friday. The former CBI Chief was scheduled to retire on January 31.

Verma, a 1979-batch IPS officer who was asked to take charge as Director General of fire services, refused to take the new role and tendered his resignation in protest of his transfer order today.

The move came after a selection committee comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Justice A K Sikri and leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge voted 2:1 in favour of Verma’s transfer.
