Archana Ramasundram appointed DG of Sashastra Seema Bal

Archana-RamasundaramTamil Nadu-cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Archana Ramasundram created history, as she was appointed as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) yesterday. She became the first woman police officer to lead a central paramilitary force deployed on the border.

Archana (58), a 1980-batch IPS officer, was the Director of the National Crime Records Bureau prior to this appointment. The SSB is deployed on India’s borders with Nepal and Bhutan. Archana will continue to be at the helm of affairs till September 30, 2017.

Born on October 1, 1957, she holds an MA as well as MSc degree. She was awarded a President’s Medal in 1995.
