Assault of Tanzanian Woman in Bengaluru: 5 Arrested

Tanzanian-WomanAt least 5 people have been arrested so far in connection of the assault, molestation and stripping of a Tanzanian woman student in Bengaluru following a road accident. Efforts are on to nab all accused. The girl is a BBA student. The mob also torched her car.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has condemned the incident, termed it “shameful” and sought a detailed report from the Karnataka Government. She also asked the CM to ensure safety of foreign students.

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah has promised strong action against the accused and justice to the Tanzanian student. He confirmed that his government has submitted a report to the MEA on this issue. Meanwhile, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has also sought a report from the Karnataka CM.

The incident occurred when the mob mistook the victim’s car being involved in a road mishap on same night (January 31) when a 20-year-old drunken Sudanese national (Mohammed Ahad Ismai) ran over a woman fatally. Mohammed Ahad was arrested by the cops.
