Assembly Polls: BJP gains Big, Congress lose in 4 States

Modi-BJPCongress was a big forced in all five states that went to polls, but lost badly in four big ones. They turned out to be the biggest loser by losing two states Assam and Kerala where the party was in power.

Similarly, they lost in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu despite forming alliance with Left and DMK respectively. The only solace came for the Congress in 30-member Puducherry Assembly where they emerged victorious.

On the other hand, BJP gained big by winning Assam and increasing its seats/vote shares in West Bengal and Kerala. The party increased its vote share in Tamil Nadu, but failed to convert that into seats.

As expected, Mamata Banerjee swept West Bengal, while LDF stormed into power in Kerala, In Tamil Nadu, Jayalalithaa defied the odds to retain power. BJP also registered a major victory in Gujarat by snatching Talala assembly seat from the Congress.

West Bengal (294): TMC 211, Left 32, Congress 44, BJP+GJM 6, Others 1.

Tamil Nadu (232/234): AIADMK 134, DMK 89, Congress 8, BJP 0, IUML 1.

Kerala (140): LDF 85, UDF 46, BJP 1, Kerala Congress (M) 6, Others 2.

Puducherry (30): AINR Congress 8, Congress+DMK 17, AIADMK 4, Others 1.
