Audience need not to stand when National Anthem played in Films: SC

Supreme Court on Section 499 IPC DefamationThe Supreme Court of India on Tuesday clarified that the audience needs not to stand if the National Anthem is being played in the movie as a part of its story line.

The Apex Court also cleared that it is not compulsory to sing the National Anthem in cinema halls.

A bench of Justices Dipak Misra and R. Banumathi made this clear after one of the petitioners urged the apex court to clarify the matter.

Earlier, on November 30 last year, the Court ordered all cinema halls across the country to play the National Anthem before the screening of a movie.
