‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ Scheme expanded to 61 more Districts

Beti-BachaoThe Ministry of Women and Child Development has expanded Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme in additional 61 district (covering 11 states). They included Gujarat (4), Haryana (8), Himachal Pradesh (2), Jammu & Kashmir (10), Madhya Pradesh (2), Maharashtra (6), Delhi (2), Punjab (9), Rajasthan (4), Uttar Pradesh (11), Uttarakhand (3).

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Scheme was launched on 22nd January, 2015 at Panipat in Haryana. It is a tri-ministerial effort of Ministries of Women and Child Development, Health & Family Welfare and Human Resource Development.

In the first phase, 100 districts with low CSR were selected for BBBP Scheme implementation for creating awareness and advocacy about the issue. During the last one year, the BBBP Scheme is being implemented under the overall guidance and supervision of concerned District Magistrate/Deputy Commissioners.

Seeing the overwhelming response by stakeholders in the form of various initiatives and innovations at the local level to the scheme, the Standing Finance Committee (SFC) in its meeting held on 5th January 2016 under the Chairmanship of Shri V. Somasundaran, Secretary, WCD approved the expansion of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme in additional 61 districts with low CSR for creating awareness and advocacy about the issue taking into account the performance of the scheme. The scheme has now been expanded to 61 districts.
