Big boost for Clean Ganga Mission as River now rid of sewage from Asia’s Oldest Drain

ONI Bureau:  In a major boost to Clean Ganga mission, the Engineers have successfully stopped the discharge of sewage water from Asia’s oldest drain Sisamau Nala to the Ganga river.

It is to be noted that the 128-year-old drain in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, was discharging nearly 14 crore litres of sewage to Ganga every day (40% of total sewerage), which is one of the major contributors to pollute the river Ganga.

Earlier on Sunday, the National Mission for Clean Ganga under the Namami Gange programme has sanctioned projects worth Rs 2,192 crore for Kanpur zone to stop the flow of sewage water into the river.
