BSP, SP announce Gathbandhan in Uttar Pradesh

ONI Bureau:  Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati and Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav have officially announced alliance for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing a press conference in Lucknow along with SP president Akhilesh Yadav, BSP chief Mayawati said that the alliance was aimed at defeating BJP in the forthcoming general elections.

However the gathbandhan kept Congress out of the alliance, saying that both BSP and SP have experienced in the past that Congress’s vote is not transferable.

The Gathbandhan won’t field candidates in Congress’ traditional seats Amethi and Rae Bareli as a goodwill gesture towards Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

As per report, both BSP & SP have decided 50-50 seat-sharing deal. Both the party will contest in 38 seats each and have left two seats for the smaller parties.
