Chhattisgarh CM announces Farm Loan Waiver; Hike in MSP of Paddy

ONI Bureau:  Within hours of being sworn-in as Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Bhupesh Baghel on Monday announced to waive off farm loans worth Rs 6,100 crore, which would benefit 16.65 lakh farmers in the State.

The new government has also decided to increase the minimum support price for paddy from Rs 1,700 per quintal to Rs 2,500 a quintal, fulfilling a promise made by the Congress ahead of Assembly polls.

This was informed by Baghel, after chairing the first cabinet meeting of the newly-formed Congress government on Monday.

CM Baghel has also decided to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the deadly maoist attack in Bastar that left 27 people, including top Congress leaders dead.

Worth mentioning, a deadly maoist attack in Dabra of Bastar district in 2013 wiped out total Congress leaders from the state. With waive off farm loans, Congress party in Chhattisgarh got a new way of rebuilding the party in the state.
