Complete List of 98 Smart Cities in India @ Smart City Mission

Smart-CitiesUnion Minister Venkaiah Naidu has announced the list of 98 cities as part of Smart City Mission. 13 crore population across 98 cities, which is 35% of urban population will be covered under the Smart City Mission. Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu top the list with 12 cities each. Smart City Mission is the pet project of PM Narendra Modi.

Uttar Pradesh has one slot vacant, while Jammu & Kashmir has sought time to send its recommendations. The Central Government has proposed to give financial support to Mission to the extent of Rs. 48,000 crores over 5 years.

Each smart city will get Rs 200 crore for the first year and Rs 100 crore every year for another four years. Itanagar, Patna, Shimla, Bengaluru and Kolkata are among the national capitals not declared as Smart Cities. However, New Town of Kolkata is in the list of Smart Cities.

Maximum Smart Cities come from the following states:

Uttar Pradesh – 12, Tamil Nadu – 12, Maharashta – 10, Madhya Pradesh – 7, Gujarat – 6, Karnataka – 6, Rajasthan – 4, West Bengal – 4, Punjab – 3, Bihar – 3, Andhra Pradesh – 3, Odisha – 2, Telangana – 2, Haryana – 2, Chhattisgarh – 2.
