Cow Slaughter Allegations trigger Violence in UP’s Mainpuri

Even as the Dadri Lynching is still fresh in the minds of people, another incident came to light in Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh. Tension prevailed in the Karhal town in Mainpuri over the cow slaughter allegations.

Some people spread the rumours that a cow was taken away for slaughter and its skin was being removed in a house. The cops denied the allegations and said the cow was already dead due to some ailments and the people were only removing its skin. The police arrested two people, who were found removing the skin of the dead cow.

However, the protesters demanded strong action and resorted to violence. They torched several shops and vehicles. At least seven policemen were injured in the clashes. At least 19 people have been arrested for indulging in violence. The circle officer of the area has been suspended for negligence in the case.
