Cyclone Vardah hits Chennai, 2 killed

cyclone-vardahSevere cyclonic storm ‘Vardah’ began its landfall  in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and southern coast of Andhra Pradesh. The wind speed of cyclone reached at 110-120 kmph.

Two people have died, massive damage caused as heavy rainfall and storm uprooted trees, vehicles damaged due to strong winds lashing in parts of Chennai.

Over 16,000 people have been evacuated in several districts since Sunday night. Over 170 relief centres are there to receive evacuated people in Chennai.

The National Disaster Management Authority advised people to remain in safe places and cooperate with State Government Officials and Disaster Management Agencies.

The Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, teams of the National Disaster Relief Force has been deployed to conduct rescue and relief operations in Chennai.
