Facts & Figures @ Dalit Killing in Sunpedh, Haryana

Dalits-HaryanaWhile the opposition and section of media are busy targeting Haryana Government and PM Narendra Modi to win the sympathy of Dalits in Bihar Assembly polls, citing atrocities against the downtrodden in Haryana, the facts and figures hint at the other side of the truth. Yes, there was a violence and heinous murder, but it was a result of old rivalry between two groups.

Here’s the Timeline of Events:

* On 5, October 2014, 3 people from Thakur clan, were killed in clashes between two groups of the village. As many as 19 people were booked for the triple murder including three members of Jitender’s family.

* The cops filed chargesheet in the court on January 3, 2015 and the case is under trial.

* On 19 October, 2015, Jitender’s family was allegedly attacked by the same Thakur’s family, which lost three members in the violence in 2014.

* Jitender and his wife Rekha sustained serious burn injuries, while their four-year-old son Vaibhav and eight-month-old daughter Divya succumbed to burn injuries.

* 11 people have been booked for murder, arson and attempt to murder. Three accused – Balwant, Dharam Singh and Kartar have been arrested.

* Haryana Government has recommended a CBI probe into the incident and announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for Jitender’s family. The government also agreed to give job to one member of victims’ family.

* Ballabgarh Police is probing the incident. Constables Bali Mohammed, Vikas and Sandeep, who were deployed to provide security to Jitender’s family, have been placed under suspension for dereliction of duties.
