The 11-hour-long encounter in Dinanagar, Gurdaspur in Punjab, came to an end after the security forces gunned down all three militants involved in the attack. At least 5 policemen, including SP Baljit Singh and 3 civilians were among the casualties.
The terrorists, suspected to be of LeT, reportedly came from Narowal, Pakistan. They were heavily armed and even carried GPS equipments. They had sophisticated Chinese weapons, including AK-47. The SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics) team of Punjab was involved in the anti-terror operations.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will soon meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to brief him over the terror attack and counter operation.
