Haryana to provide Reservation to Jats; Centre forms Committee

Jat AgitationWhile the Haryana government has promised to bring a legislation in the next Budget session of the Assembly to provide reservation to agitating Jats, the Centre has also formed a committee under Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu to look into their demands and submit a report as early as possible.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has assured the Jat delegation that their issue would be taken up on a priority basis and a proper solution would be reached.

The decision was taken after protesters went on a rampage across Haryana, mainly in Rohtak and damaging properties worth Rs 300 crore and bringing life to standstill in the state during their eight-day-long protest.

At least 10 people have been killed and 150 injured in mindless violence linked to the job quota protests by the Jat community in Haryana. Road and rail connectivity in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir as well as Chandigarh remained paralysed. Army was deployed in Haryana to control the situation.
