* Sahitya Akademi Awards were instituted in 1954.
* In total, 1004 Writers, Poets, Translators have received the award from 1955 till 2014.
* 26 of 1004 Writers have decided to return the awards till date. The number may rise.
* 23 Writers have already informed the Sahitya Akademi.
* Only 3 Writers have returned the prize money so far.
* Initially, the prize money was Rs 5,000. Currently, it is Rs 1 lakh.
