Jallikattu Ban: Police lathicharge, detain 30 Protestors in Madurai

Defying Supreme Court’s ban on the popular event of the Pongal celebrations, people organised Jallikattu in several parts of Tamil Nadu on Friday.

Police lathi charged protesters in Avanivapuram (Madurai) and at least 30 supporters were today taken into custody as people clashed with police who tried to stop Jallikattu events in Madurai.

The Supreme Court on Thursday had rejected a plea urging it to pass judgement on the sport before Pongal.
