Lal Bahadur Shastri’s Family claims he was Murdered, seeks Probe

Lal-Bahadur-ShastriFormer PM Lal Bahadur Shastri’s son Anil Shastri claims that his father was poisoned.Anil Shastri, who is a Congress leader, has been making such claims for long, but he was never given any attention by successive governments.

Anil Shastri has sought the declassification of all documents related to Lal Bahadur Shastri’s death. He also wondered how Shastriji’s Personal Physician RN Chugh and Personal Assistant Jagan Nath Sahai died of road accidents after they returned to India from Tashkent. He has sought a detailed probe into the mysterious death of Lal Bahadur Shastri in 1966.

Veteran Journalist Kuldip Nayar, who was the Media Advisor at that time, too backs his claim. “Shastriji’s wife also told me that he was poisoned. The body had turned blue. But, Indira Gandhi, who shared good relations with Soviet Union, did not order any probe. Even no post-mortem was done either in Tashkent or India”, he said.

“I was the first person to enter the room after Shastriji’s death. There was no Bell, no Telephone in Shastriji’s room at Tashkent, which was quite unusual”, Nayar added. It can be recalled that Lal Bahadur Shashtri’s death remains a mystery.

A few days ago, Shastriji’s family had claimed that just 40 minutes before his death, the late PM had told the family that he was going to meet a special leader and that would be a big news for India. It is suspected that it could be Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Some people allege that Shastri Ji was murdered, as he wanted to help Netaji and secure his respectable entry into India.
