Last date for filing Income Tax returns extended till 5 August

In a view of the day-long strike at public sector banks, the deadline for the income-tax returns for 2015-16 (assessment year 2016-17) has been extended to August 5.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Government of India have extended due date for filing return of income from July 31 to August 5 in case of taxpayers who were liable to file ITR by such date.

For assessees in Jammu and Kashmir, date has been extended to 31st August in view of the ongoing turmoil in the State.
