Overstaying Students of FTII hold Director Hostage, Police Intervenes

FTIIAround 50 students of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, had gheraoed Director Prashant Pathrabe in midnight and helm him hostage for a few hours before police intervened and rescued him.

The Director had recently followed an I&B Ministry directive and issued notices to 30-odd students of 2008 batch, who have been overstaying in hostel, citing reasons of incomplete projects.

They were supposed to vacate the hostel in 2011, but have not done so. They have been asked to vacate the hostel immediately. Those students are now leading the agitation against Chairman Gajendra Chauhan and creating unrest within the campus since June 12. They are backed by Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal and Raj Babbar among the politicians.
