Ashok-Vajpeyi-CanadaIndian Poet and Author Ashok Vajpeyi (74), who recently returned his Sahitya Akademi Award, spoke at an event organised at the University of Toronto on October 21. The seminar had the title, “Shattering the Silence”.

He talked about “growing intolerance” and “communalism” in India and discussed how Indian Government was responsible for the murder of Writers and Activists as well as Muslims and Christians.

His event was hosted by Pakistanis, confirms Tarek Fatah, Columnist, The Toronto Sun. Was it necessary to defame your country, government and the PM abroad?

Do people still believe the Writers did not have any agenda and returned the awards, by listening to their conscience???

Over the years, Vajpeyi served Secretary of Culture, Union Ministry of Culture, and as Vice-Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya; Chairman, Bharat Bhavan Trust; Trustee, Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA); Member, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), and Executive Board Member of the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
