The BJP gained big elsewhere across Maharashtra, while Congress, NCP and MNS got decimated. Shiv Sena held its fort in its own areas. Devendra Fadanvis gets a bug thumbs up, as he led from the front alone without central intervention. The party more than doubled its tally in BMC as compared to 2012.
In BMC, Shiv Sena takes the lead, but BJP increased its tally from 31 in 2012 to 80 in 2017. Sena improved its tally from 76 to 84. Both contested together in 2012, but separately in 2017.
BJP retains Nagpur with an overwhelming mandate and toppled NCP in Pune and heading towards a majority. BJP is all set to win Nasik too. Shiv Sena retained Thane. BJP did well in Solapur municipal corporation, a stronghold of the Congress Party. The party also captured other civic bodies in the Vidarbha region like Akola and Amravati.
