Sarbananda Sonowal sworn-in as Chief Minister of Assam

Sarbananda-SonowalSarbananda Sonowal has been sworn-in as the first BJP chief minister of Assam at a gala event in Guwahati attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP Veteran LK Advani, BJP President Amit Shah, his senior cabinet colleagues, 14 NDA Chief Ministers and around one lakh BJP supporters.

Sonowal (53), a tribal leader, took oath along with Himanta Biswa Sarma, the former Congress strongman who is credited with boosting BJP’s vote share in Assam. 9 other Ministers took the oath. In total, 6 from BJP, 2 from AGP and 2 from BDF.

image“The people of Assam have voted for Assam and Sonowal is the perfect person to lead the state…Sonowal will leave no stone unturned to change the destiny of Assam”, said PM Modi.

“Like you voted us to power with a thumping majority, I hope you’ll support us through our term. Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christian all will work towards a better Assam,” said Sonowal.
