Shiv Sena No. 1, but BJP improves Tally in KDMC Polls in Mumbai

Shiv Sena The Shiv Sena got a major relief, as it emerged as the single largest party in Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) polls, but BJP, which contested the polls independently, improved its tally to 42 from 9 wards in 2010 to send a clear warning signal to all.

Out of 120 (122) wards that went to polls, Shiv Sena won 52, while BJP won 42. The MNS, which had 26 wards in 2010, slumped to 9. BJP snatched wards from both Shiv Sena and MNS. The Congress could win just 4 wards, while NCP won 2. Owaisi’s AIMIM opened its account by winning one ward. Out of the 9 Independent winners, 6 were backed by the BJP, taking their tally to 48.

Shiv Sena got a massive jolt, as its sitting Mayor Kalyani Patil lost to BJP’s Suman Nikam by 50 votes. KDMC was held by Shiv Sena-BJP alliance earlier. If the Shiv Sena and MNS join hands, they can capture the KDMC again.
