Somnath Bharti goes Missing, as Anticipatory Bail Plea Rejected

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and former Law Minister of Delhi, Somnath Bharti has gone into hiding after the Delhi High Court declined to grant him anticipatory bail. Earlier, Bharti had received reprieves twice from arrest. But, the HC did not grant this privilege to him this time.

Somnath Bharti is wanted in connection with the domestic violence case filed by his wife Lipika Mitra. He has refused to surrender before the police, saying he won’t do that till the case is heard in the Supreme Court.

“The Delhi Police is targeting me at the behest of their bosses. I have enough evidence to bust the case and prove my wife wrong. I will do that in Supreme Court,” said Bharti. Lipika had accused Bharti of abuse, torture and attempt to murder.

The Delhi High Court termed the charges against Somnath Bharti as serious and said that all cases showed that his behaviour was violent and outrageous. The HC also accused Bharti of taking undue advantage of relief granted to him by the court.
