Truckers call off Strike, Centre forms a Panel

truck owners threatens strikeNew Delhi, Oct 6: The nationwide strike called by the truckers’ body All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) has been called off on Monday evening. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari held discussion with the representatives of AIMTC here that last for three hours.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari assured that the central government would look into the demands of the AIMTC over which they were on strike for last five days. After the meeting, President of AIMTC confirmed that Bhim Wadhwa said transporters have decided to end their stir.

The government has decided to form a committee headed by the Transport Secretary and it will also include the members of AIMTC. The committee will look into the demands of the transporters’ body and submit a report by December 15.

It is noteworthy that, the truckers’ body demanding the scarping of toll system they went on strike following failure of many rounds of talks with the government earlier. The five-day nationwide strike had high impact across the country as around 87 lakh trucks had stopped the supply of goods to markets.
