Union Cabinet approves Seventh Pay Commission recommendations

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations for increasing salaries, allowances and pensions for government employees.

The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Salaries and allowances will rise by at least 23.5 per cent. The raise is built around a 14.27 per cent hike in basic pay.

The move is estimated to benefit nearly 50 lakh Central government employees and 58 lakh pensioners.
