Congress scores ‘Self Goal’ with ‘Chaiwala’ jibe at Modi

SagarSpeaks: Just when Congress started an aggressive issue-based campaign to corner the Modi Government on various issues and managed to revive Rahul Gandhi’s image to some extent, the Youth Congress played the spoilsport with a self-destructive ‘Chaiwala’ tweet aimed at PM Narendra Modi.

The tweet, highly derogatory and humiliating in nature for the Prime Minister of a country, was deleted when they realised their blunder. But, it was too late. The damage was already done. Even a public apology became futile, as BJP has now taken it up in an aggressive manner, comparing it with ‘Gujarat Asmita’.

The Yuva Desh, an online magazine of the Youth Congress, tweeted the photo of PM Modi, US President Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister Theresa May, while taking a jibe on Modi’s English speaking skills. The ‘meme’ showed Theresa May mocking Theresa May and asking him to ‘sell tea’. Forget about BJP, the tweet did not go well even with the rivals of PM Modi.

It was unwarranted, avoidable and highly destructive. With Gujarat elections round the corner, Congress would find it too difficult to ward off the storm, triggered by its over-excited youth wing. It was Mani Shankar Aiyar, who had mocked Narendra Modi ahead of 2014 polls and asked him to sell tea at the AICC Headquarters. We all saw how Congress had to pay a heavy price for that jibe.
