ONI Bureau: India was elected to the United Nations’ top Human Rights body on Friday with highest votes among all candidates. India will continue as top body for a period of three years beginning 1 January 2019.
India bagged 188 votes in the Asia-Pacific category out of 193 – highest for any contesting candidate.
This is for the fifth time that India has been elected to the Geneva-based Council while; Countries needed a minimum of 97 votes to get elected to the Council.
I am happy to inform that India has been elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council with highest number of votes. We have secured 188 votes out of 193.
