Indonesia Quake-Tsunami death toll rises to 1,234

ONI Bureau:  Death toll from Friday’s earthquake and tsunami on Indonesia’s Sulawesi Island has risen to 1,234, the national disaster mitigation agency said on Tuesday.

While, local hospitals are overwhelmed with injured, survivors are battling thirst and hunger. Officials fear the toll will rise and are preparing for the worst.

The tsunami warning system had not worked for six years due to a lack of money, the disaster agency said.

Indian AirForce embarked on a humanitarian & disaster relief mission to earthquake-hit Indonesia. 37 medical personnel sent on IAF C-130J aircraft and C-17 aircraft carrying relief material including tentage, generators & medicines sent.
