Scathing Attack on Sushma could be an Insider’s Job

Editor’s Desk: The worst fears are coming true for the BJP. Some intellectuals had predicted a few months ago that Narendra Modi won’t face any strong challenge from the Opposition, but from his own partymen. Many within the BJP, Government and even in Opposition believe that the aggressive attack on Sushma Swaraj over the issue of Lalit Modi, was an insider’s job. The infighting within the BJP is out in the open now.

While the BJP leaders have been talking about it in private, BJP MP from Darbhanga and former Test cricketer, Kirti Azad dared to go public with his resentment. He tweeted, “#‎BJPs‬ ‪#‎AsteenKaSaanp‬ & ‪#‎Arnab‬ conspire against BJP leaders. Guess the snake? IStandWithSushmaSwaraj @SushmaSwaraj.” Even, BJP fans named that senior Minister, who is now accused of planting the story in the media to put Sushma Swaraj in the tight spot and end her clout in the party forever.

The same leader, has been at loggerheads with former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi and was instrumental in his ouster. He was also in the committee that imposed life ban on Lalit Modi. Although there is no evidence to suggest that he was involved in the alleged conspiracy, but fans of Sushma Swaraj have chosen to name him on the social networking sites. They believe that he was threatened by Sushma’s growing influence in the government, thanks to her excellent work as the External Affairs Minister, thus took this drastic step to emerge stronger at her cost.

Questions have been raised on TIMES Now by both Sushma and Kirti Azad as well as other BJP leaders. While Kirti Azad has named Arnab Goswami, Sushma went a step further to say senior journalist Navika Kumar, who was herself named in Niira Radia tapes, cannot talk about propriety. While senior BJP leaders such as Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and Venkaiah Naidu have come out in Sushma Swaraj’s support, PM Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley have maintained a stoic silence over this issue.

Some people question Modi’s silence and wonder whether he too endorses the campaign unleashed against Sushma Swaraj. Sushma is seen as pro-Advani, not pro-Modi. with veterans like LK Advani and MM Joshi being completely sidelined, is it the turn of Sushma Swaraj now to face the heat? Only time will say…
