Subramanian Swamy backs SC Judges who held Press Meet

ONI Bureau: Senior BJP leader and eminent Lawyer Subramanian Swamy came out in support of 4 Supreme Court Judges who held a press meet to air their concerns and grievances and alleged that CJI is not working in the interest of the nation.

“We can’t criticize them, they are men of great integrity & have sacrificed a lot of their legal career, where they could’ve made money as senior counsels. We must respect them. PM must ensure that the 4 judges & CJI, in fact whole SC come to one opinion & proceed further,” Swamy said.

For the first time in the history of Indian Judiciary, four Supreme Court Judges held a press meet and appealed the nation to save the Supreme Court, saying all is not well in the apex court.

They targeted CJI Dipak Misra for ignoring their concerns. “It is with great anguish & concern that we thought it proper to highlight certain judicial orders passed by this Court that adversely affected functioning of justice delivery system & independence of HCs besides impacting administrative functioning of CJI’s office,” said the Judges.

“There have been instances where case having far-reaching consequences for nation & the institution had been assigned by Chief Justice of this court selectively to benches ‘of their preference’ without rationale basis. This must be guarded against at all costs,” claimed the Judges.

“It is too well settled in the jurisprudence of this country that the Chief Justice is only first amongst the equals- nothing more or nothing less,” their letter to the CJI reads.

Judges J.Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, Madan Lokur and Kurian Joseph released a 7 page letter, which they wrote to CJI Dipak Misra.
