Supreme Court allows sale, use of Firecrackers with conditions

ONI Bureau: The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed use of fire crackers but with conditions. As per the Apex Courts’s order, only less polluting crackers with low emission will be allowed, for a limited time and in designated areas.

HIGHLIGHTS

On Diwali, crackers will be allowed for 2 hours, from 8 pm to 10 pm.
On Christmas and New Year, people will be allowed to burst firecrackers between 11:55 pm and 12:30 am.
Bursting of crackers allowed for 2 hours in a day during weddings, other festivals and events.
Only licensed traders can sell crackers now. The station house officer (SHO) of the police station will be held liable if banned crackers are sold in their area.
The court bans sale of firecrackers on e-commerce websites.
Supreme court directs Central Pollution Control Board to monitor air quality 7 days before and 7 days after Diwali.
Only designated community areas in Delhi-NCR identified by Central Pollution Control Board will be allowed to use firecrackers.
