Tamilnadu Assembly passes Lokayukta Bill

Tamil Nadu on Monday enacted the Lokayukta law. paving the way for setting up of the anti-corruption body.

The Tamil Nadu Lokayukta Act, 2018 was passed a day ahead of the deadline set by the Supreme Court directing all states that have not set up Lokayuktas to furnish the reason for the same.

Earlier the Bill to probe corruption allegations against public servants including Chief Minister, Ministers, and government officials was moved by Fisheries and Personnel and Administrative Reforms Minister D.Jayakumar.

The Bill was passed by voice vote after DMK, Congress and IUML walked out of the House terming it as powerless.

The opposition parties wanted the Bill to be referred to the Select Committee. However the demand was rejected. (IANS)
